Giving up smoking is never easy and you may have tried the "cold turkey" approach or just cutting back gradually and still found it hard to quit completely. The underlying problem is that nicotine from tobacco smoke is very addictive and as with many other drugs experts are generally agreed that for many people the best way to give up the habit is to gradually reduce the dosage over a suitably long time. Trying to do this by cutting back on the number of cigarettes smoked each day doesn't work so well because you get a craving in between the times you smoke your decreasing number of cigarettes.
A better way is to use electronic cigarettes where you can actually adjust the dose of nicotine that you're getting and so are able to gradually reduce it downwards. Thus you don't need to cut back on the number of cigarettes a day, at least not at the beginning, because each will be giving you slightly less nicotine but still enough to avoid the misery of craving for the next.
You might be able to do a similar exercise with nicotine patches or lozenges but it is much more difficult to adjust the dose. You see, electronic or e-cgarettes are actually a plastic facsimile of an ordinary cigarette but in fact use heat supplied electrically in order to vaoporize a harmless vegetable product that can be had in many different types such as chocolate or strawberry flavor in a replaceable or refillable cartridge. Thus it is easy to reduce the amount of nicotine in the cartridge over time and reduce your reliance on the drug until eventually you can happily do without it altogether. (more...)
